To celebrate its 15 years of activity, IMBEWU will organise a cultural and musical exchange with Masifunde, one of its South African partners. From July 10th to 16th, 20 South African choir singers between the ages of 14 and 18 will visit Switzerland and participate in a week of exchange with 20 young Swiss people of the same age.

Together on the shores of Lake Neuchatel, these 40 young people will avail of a range of rich and varied activities, including in particular musical rehearsals (organised in collaboration with the Neuchatel Conservatory of Music), workshops on developing awareness on the themes of diversity and the fight against racism as well as cultural and touristic excursions in the Neuchatel area. With the values of respect, tolerance and solidarity as a common denominator, these activities will allow these young people not only to get to know those from another social and economic background but also to develop and reinforce their understanding of difference and their critical thinking.

In addition, in order to stimulate intercultural interaction and to benefit to the full from the week, each South African participant will stay with a local host family in the Neuchatel area. This formula offers everyone the possibility to discover the other’s culture and enables the young South Africans to immerse themselves in the daily lives of a local family.

Finally, the organisation of a final concert July 15th 2016 will introduce the Neuchâtel general public to the work of our young people after a rich and intense week!
